Finally we will retire to our villas in Sicily and dance to Nicosia's Nero D'Avola and sip the sunset of their sweet Zibibo. So Grab your gutturnium and will reflect on a centurions old saying: Veni, Vidi, Vino!.... Harpoon Oyster Stout The thirtieth session in this 100 barrel series the idea for the Oyster Stout came after years of enjoying locally harvested Oysters over freshly brewed pints of beer with their friends from Island Creek. Stouts have long been paired with Oysters, though seldom brewed with them. This is Harpoon's take on an age old tradition. Brewed by Harpoon Brewer Kate Tome, using Island Creek Oyster farmer Skip Bennett's revered Duxbury Bay Oysters, this beer has a rich body and smooth mouth feel derived in part from a combination of roasted barley and chocolate rye malt. The roasted malt notes blend beautifully with the briny, mineral flavors of the oysters. An addition of hops adds some bitterness to balance the malt sweetness. ABV 5.5%, Available 22 ounce bottles, $6.95 plus deposit.
Smuttynose Farmhouse Ale Broadly speaking, a Farmhouse Ale or Saison is an esoteric style native to the French/Belgium border region. Characterized by golden to light amber color, light to medium body, and noticeable fruity/spicy esters, this beer, known as a "country ale" was traditionally brewed in primitive conditions in farmhouse breweries for consumption throught the warm weather by seasonal farm workers. Their Farmhouse Ale is an hommage to traditional European beers which use a unique Belgian Saison yeast to impart a mixture of spicy, fruity, and earthy notes along with lip-smacking palatability. ABV 8.8%, Available 22 ounce bottles, $6.45 plus deposit.
Smuttynose Imperial Stout Originally brewed in the early 19th Century for export from Britian to the Imperial Court of Russia's Catherine the Great, Imperial Stouts are characterized by the dark color and full body. This brew features a rich, malty sweetness coupled with aggressive hopping. Notes of dry fruit as well as malt flavors are also present. ABV 8.9% Available 22 ounce bottles, $6.45 plus deposit.
Stone Double Bastard Ale This beer pours a clear, dark ruby hue. It smells of caramel, fig, raisin, toffee sweetness and some very mild citrus hops. The taste of sweet caramel malt, stewed raisins, and toffee with some citrus and pine hops coming on later. The carbonation is quite mild, the body thick, heavy and fairly smooth, and it finishes with a growing hoppiness to quell the consistent dense malt presence. Beware, the high ABV is very well hidden! ABV 10.5% Available 22 ounce bottles, $8.35 plus deposit.
Stone Thirteenth Anniversary Ale Brewed by the Stone Brewing Company in Escondito, CA, this a 9.5 ABV American strong ale. It pours brillant red with a light tan foam. Upfront the aroma is all piney, resinous and citrus hops. Upon tasting, the hops are still on the front and they are balanced with malty toffee flavors that are derived from crystal and amber malts used in the brewhouse. The finish is deliciously bitter with a deep taste of warmth provided by the 9.5 ABV. Available 22 ounce bottles, SPECIAL $4.99 plus deposit.
Goose Island This new arrival opened as a brew pub in 1988 in Chicago, Illinois. By 1995 the brew pub had become so popular that owner John Hall and his son Greg, who by then had become Goose Island's Brewmaster, decided to open a larger brewery and bottling plant to keep up with demand. Finding still more room for growth, in 1999 the Father Son team opened a second Goose Island Brew Pub just a stone throw's away from Wrigley Field. Today, Goose Island continues to brew an innovative selection of over 50 Craft Beers at their Brew Pubs, the best of which are then bottled at their Fulton Street Brewery.
Bourbon County Stout This stout was originally brewed in celebration of the 100th batch at Goose Islands historic Clybourne Street Brew Pub. A liquid as dark and dense as a black hole with thick foam, the color of a bourbon barrel. The nose is an intense mix of charred oak, chocolate, vanilla, caramel and smoke. On sip has more flavor than your average case of beer. A gigantic beer that's perfect when enjoyed on it's own or with a fine, robust cigar. ABV 10.5, Available 22 ounce bottles, $12.95 plus deposit.
Matilda Belgian Style Ale Wild in character, with a slightly fruity aroma and a spicy yeast flavor that is as unique as it is satisfying - Matilda is an intriguing choice for beer and wine lovers alike. Dry and quenching, it's the perfect accompaniment at the dining table or casual socializing at the bar. ABV 7.0, Available in 22 ounce bottles, $7.95 plus deposit.
Sofie Belgian Style Ale Fermented with wild yeast and aged in wine barrels with orange peel, Sofie is a tart, dry, sparkling ale. A sublte, spicy white pepper note, a hint of citrus from the orange peel and a creamy vanilla finish makes Sofie an intriguing choice for champagne drinkers and beer drinkers who are fond of Belgian Saisons. ABV 6.5, Available 22 once bottles $7.95 plus deposit.
Pere Jacques Belgian Style Ale Brewed with loads of malt and Belgian yeast, Pere Jacques is a wonderfully fruity, malty ale. It's complex flavors stand shoulder to shoulder with the Belgian Dubbels enjoyed in the World's finest beer bars. At the dining table it's the perfect alternative to a glass of vintage port. ABV 8.0, Available 22 ounce bottles, $7.95
The combined experience of Spaten's Franziskaner-Brau brewers and the use of superior raw materials and ultra modern technologies ensures a top quality classic bottom fermented German dark beer.Dark ruby in color. The smell is a bit sweet with a slight hint of alcohol. The mouthfell is crisp, light and not overly carbonated for a Doppel Bock. When tasted the malt is complex but blends nicely with the hops. There is a distinct aftertaste of caramel ,finishing slightly roasty. Very drinkable!! ABV 7.0 $8.69 plus deposit
